Thousands proudly flood Toronto streets for annual Dyke March

Downtown Toronto is flooded with pride as Pride Month in the city wraps up this weekend.

The Dyke Rally and March took over the Gay Village on Saturday.

Although it was an overcast day, the morning rain cleared in time for the start of the march.

You can’t rain on this parade, which was attended by thousands.

“It is an amazing day,” said Sandy Denis. “This is a community that is inclusive.”

Doris also said the March is fantastic.

“There is a lot of love here, but the March is also a protest for rights,” Doris said.

There was also a Family Pride event held at the Church Street School on Saturday.

The theme was Be Yourself.

“Family Pride is a fun-filled experience on the grounds of Church Street School. Here families can indulge in face painting, a magic show, storytelling, and so much more. Come play with your family, while building and strengthening our diverse community of 2SLGBTQI+ parents, caregivers, and children. Please note that adults are only allowed in this space if accompanying a child/children 0-12 years,” the group said.

The event runs on Sunday as well and it is expected to be sunny.

Organizer Kojo Modeste said 4,000 family will attend the event over the weekend.

“Love is love and we support everyone,” said Laura Santos, who had her two children with her at the family event.

The Pride Parade will take over Toronto streets on Sunday.

At 8 a.m., road closures will come into effect on Rosedale Valley Rd., from Park Rd. to Bayview Ave.

At 12 p.m., road closures will come into effect on Park Rd. from Rosedale Valley Rd. to Bloor St. E., Church St. from Park Rd. to Hayden St. and Bloor St., E. from Yonge St. to Ted Rogers Way.

At 1:30 p.m., road closures will come into effect on Bloor St. W. from Bay St to Ted Rogers Way and Yonge St. from Bloor St. W. to Queen St. W. and Dundas St. W. from University Ave. to Victoria St. and Bay St. from Queen St. to Dundas St.
