One of the injured is understood to be a woman aged in her 30s.

She suffered head injuries and has been taken to St George Hospital for treatment.

“Paramedics continue the treatment and will be transporting (patients) to hospital as soon as possible,” Dewberry said.

“There are a number of ambulance helicopters on scene that will no doubt assist with that transportation.”

The site will be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit on Friday afternoon.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time and the public is urged to avoid the area,” police said.
