The seaside city named the best place to live in UK for improved wellbeing

Where you live plays a huge role in your overall health and wellbeing.

Air quality, access to green spaces, local healthcare services and even the weather can have an impact.

This became even more apparent during the Covid pandemic as people were restricted to their hometowns.

With this in mind a survey was conducted to determine the best locations in the UK for wellbeing.

Floral delivery service Flowercard studied seven different factors across the UK’s biggest cities, including air quality, gyms per 100,000 people and average life expectancy.

As reported by Country Living, a spokesperson for Flowercard explained: “We wanted to investigate how easy it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and look after your wellbeing in different parts of the country.

“Is there a perfect place for making wellness a central part of your life?

“And are there certain places where wellness is that much more difficult to achieve?

“We’ve looked at seven different factors across the UK’s biggest cities to find out which location is the country’s wellness capital.

“So, from the number of gyms and spas in the area, to local life expectancy, which city will see you living your best life?”

As a result, Brighton on the south coast of England was named the best place to live.

Other places including York, Bournemouth, Cambridge, and Scotland’s Edinburgh were all praised for their high wellness scores and long life expectancy.

But what was it that made Brighton so special? It was ranked highly due to its air quality, vegan-friendly restaurants, gyms, relaxing spas and high number of yoga classes.

That’s not all the seaside city has to offer though.

Visit Brighton describes it as an “inclusive, free-thinking city” in the heart of Sussex.

It says: “With a blend of modern culture and exotic architecture, sea and countryside, make Brighton your base and discover new places and experiences both inside the city and out.

“Ever since royal party animal George IV fell in love with Brighton back in the 18th century, the city has been a magnet for visitors in search of fun, frolics and fresh sea air.

“With its majestic Regency squares and crescents, iconic Royal Pavilion and famous piers, today Brighton is as well-known for being a welcoming and diverse city with a passion for culture, creativity and sustainability as it is for its historic landmarks.”

Brighton is also known for its art, live music and entertainment.

And its assortment of independent shops, hotels and restaurants make it a unique place to live and visit.

For those who love nature and getting outside there is also eight miles of beach to enjoy.

Plus it borders the stunning South Downs National Park, a beautiful place for hiking and cycling.

All this within a one-hour train journey from London and a half-hour train journey from Gatwick Airport.

According to Rightmove, properties in Brighton had an overall average price of £503,073 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Brighton during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £355,776. Terraced properties sold for an average of £615,423, with semi-detached properties fetching £579,049.
