Elvis Presley famously had some very eccentric eating habits from his peanut butter and banana sandwiches to obsessively munching on the same food over and over.
On a virtual tour of Graceland, Elvis expert Angie Marchese once shared: “[The King] grew up on good ol’ Southern food.
“He loved meatloaf, mashed potato, fried chicken…mac & cheese. Anything that he grew up on was some of his favourites.”
In fact, his ex-wife Priscilla Presley recalls him at one point having meatloaf and mashed potatoes every day for six months.
Yet Graceland’s archivist admitted there was one type of food Elvis couldn’t stand and actually banned from the Memphis mansion.
Angie shared: “Anything but fish. He didn’t like the smell of fish being cooked in the house. There was never any fish in the house.”
Elvis’ cousin Danny previously said on his Memphis Mafia Kid YouTube channel: “I think it was pretty much the smell. He didn’t care for the smell of seafood. He didn’t like the strong smell of onion and garlic. There was just something about those things that he just didn’t care for… It turned his stomach or made him [feel] sick kinda like a lot of us.”
Meanwhile, his father Billy, who grew up with The King and knew him before he was famous, remembered the star’s hating fishing too.
In a previous video, Billy said: “I couldn’t get Elvis to go fishing. He just wouldn’t do it. I can only remember him going fishing twice really and that was just briefly. Most of the time he just sat around and walked up and down. He wouldn’t fish.”
Other favourite foods of Elvis’ included bacon and mustard sandwiches, crowder peas, hamburger steak, fried peanut butter and Krystal hamburgers. Angie also shared that The King’s favourite dessert had to be Mom’s Chocolate Cake.
