This evening, the 77th annual Tony Awards celebrated the standout Broadway productions (and performances!) of the year at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in New York City. Plays and musicals such as Hell’s Kitchen, Cabaret, and Merrily We Roll Along lead the pack in nominations. Shortly before the accolades were handed out on the main stage, however, celebrities hit the 2024 Tonys’ red carpet in their finest formal attire. The night’s best dressed stars were those who played into the annual affair’s signature glitzy feel in modern and sophisticated ways.
Elegant floor-length gowns were a trending silhouette of the night; Many opted for black and white, though there were some sprightly bursts of color, too. Host Ariana DeBose shined in a colorful, stained glass-style ballgown from Oscar de la Renta; Hell’s Kitchen impresario Alicia Keys shined in a custom off-the-shoulder red Gucci dress, complete with matching opera gloves. Even the more demure designs made an impact—just take Elle Fanning in her sleek Saint Laurent tuxedo, which was worn without a top, but with a diamond tennis necklace.
As for some of the standout Broadway gents of the evening, Daniel Radcliffe chose a custom Todd Snyder tuxedo in an unexpected shade of lilac. Jeremy Strong forwent a classic suit and tie in favor of a bowed necktie, giving his tailored look the perfect dash of whimsy. Turns out, you can be classic without being boring.
