Following the Toronto Maple Leafs‘ 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Monday, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe wasn’t particularly happy.
The Maple Leafs bench boss was especially frustrated with how the Islanders scored one of their three goals.
Early in the second period with the game tied 1-1 and the Maple Leafs on the power play, as the penalty came to an end, Islanders forward Kyle MacLean sprang from the box, slipped behind Toronto’s defencemen to accept a pass, and scored his first career NHL goal on a breakaway.

Keefe was less than impressed with his team’s error.
“This is the National Hockey League. That’s peewee stuff,” Keefe said after the game. “…You play on the power play in the National Hockey League, they should not get behind you coming out of the penalty box.”
The Maple Leafs would go on to tie the game before a Pierre Engvall goal late in the third period secured the victory for the visiting Islanders.
After dropping their first game from the All-Star break, the Maple Leafs are now 25-15-8 and sit fourth in the Atlantic Division.
