Teenager fights for life in hospital after alleged bashing outside surf club in Wollongong

A teenager is fighting for life in hospital five days after he was allegedly bashed outside a surf club in Wollongong.

Police said he was sitting with another man on a bench on Elliotts Rd in Fairy Meadow when they were approached by four people about 10pm on Thursday.

Police allege the pair were told to hand over alcohol, cigarettes and vapes and threatened with a knife.

“A scuffle has ensued and an 18-year-old man was allegedly punched and kicked in the head,” NSW Police said.

Police said the group of four, including three minors, fled the scene through Thomas Dalton Park.

Their alleged victim was rushed to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition on Tuesday.

Four people — including a 23-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy — have each been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

All four were refused bail ahead of their next court appearance and police said inquiries are ongoing.
