A teenage boy has died following a shark attack near Ethel Beach in South Australia, police say.
At 1.30pm on Thursday police received reports of a shark attack in Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, on the Yorke Peninsula.
The body of a teenage boy was later recovered from the water.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner. No other information was immediately available.
It is the third fatal shark attack in South Australia this year.
In early November, surfer Tod Gendle died at Streaky Bay on the state’s west coast following an attack.
Earlier this year, school teacher Simon Baccanello was also killed by a shark while surfing at Walkers Rock on the Eyre Peninsula.
In November, a snap ban on school trips to the beach was called in the state, after a shark bit a 32-year-old woman on the head at Port Noarlunga beach, 30km south of Adelaide, leaving her with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
Three school groups were present at the beach during the attack.
Meanwhile 64-year-old Pamela Cook suffered serious leg injuries when she was bitten by a shark at Beachport on the state’s south-east coast in October.
In 2021, a 32-year-old snorkeller was taken by what was believed to be a white shark at Port MacDonnell.
Overall, there have been 25 fatal shark attacks recorded in South Australia and more than 50 other recorded incidents, according to the Australian shark incident database.
