Taylor Swift Ditches This Classic Wedding Guest Dress Rule

Can you wear cream to a wedding? Taylor Swift certainly thinks so!

The singer and newly-mustachioed beau Travis Kelce jetted over from Kansas City to New York to attend model Karen Elson’s wedding to Electric Lady Studios owner Lee Foster (where Elson donned a custom Valentino by Alessandro Michele). For the star-studded occasion, Swift opted for a Zimmermann dress that many would likely hesitate to wear to someone else’s wedding.

The cream-colored linen dress featured a scalloped neck and hemline with cutout details and a lace-up corset back. But the dress wasn’t without some color: the skirt is printed with large multicolored florals. Swift added an additional pop of color—a “something blue,” if you will—with a circular Vivienne Westwood pouch bag the color of the sky, and featuring the late designer’s telltale orb emblem. She added a pair of Christian Louboutin heeled sandals in the “leche” colorway.

When it comes to wedding guest dressing, most people would opt to stay away from anything remotely close to white under any circumstances. Even a pale blue or yellow can ignite the internet and wedding etiquette ethicists alike into a frenzy. But some brides are all for guests in white (or white-adjacent.) Who can forget Solange’s all-white wedding in 2014, after all?

While we aren’t certain if Elson and Foster had a color-specific dress code (supermodel Linda Evangelista and Kelce both wore black, while Helena Christensen wore red), Taylor Swift has taken a very clear stance on what side of acceptable cream falls on. Who’s brave enough to follow in her footsteps?
