Across the harbour in North Sydney, the council made $8.3 million throughout the year, with Walker St bringing in $536,000.

Push to bring back paper tickets

Peter Khoury from NRMA told 7NEWS councils should be conducting an audit of their processes to establish why so many fines were being issued.

“Every council that is listed on the news tonight should go back and have a look at those streets to determine what else can be done to work out why it is that so many people are being fined,” he said.

Khoury added, for the hundreds of thousands of drivers who are fined, it may take them weeks to even be notified.

This is partly due to some councils scrapping paper tickets on windshields and introducing digital systems.

“I can tell you that I’ve written to 128 councils and asked them to review their fines process to make it fairer,” he said.
