Sydney woman details horror encounter with alleged carjacker in Frenchs Forest

A woman from Sydney’s Northern Beaches has said she experienced the fright of her life when a stranger jumped on her car bonnet and smashed her windscreen while she had a young girl in the car.

Jacinta Davis said she and a 10-year-old girl she cares for were sitting at a set of traffic lights at Wakehurst Pkwy at Frenchs Forest when the alleged carjacker appeared about 8am on Monday, 12 February.

“He jumped on the bonnet of my car and started screaming to get out of the car … and smashed the windshield in,” she told 7NEWS.

“I just … put my arms up to protect my face because glass was going everywhere.”

The man then tried to open the driver side door, she said.

“If I had left that unlocked, he probably would have ripped me out of the car and just driven off with the child inside,” she said.

Davis said adrenaline kicked in and all she cared about was protecting the girl.

“Just protect the kid. That’s all I cared about,” she said.

“But, he was yanking at the car door and then eventually the lights had changed to green, so I just started to drive off, and he was still trying to open the car door.”

Eventually, the man let go. The young girl in the back seat was traumatised from the terrifying encounter.

“She was terrified … screaming, crying, she just wanted her parents,” Davis said.

7NEWS understands the 29-year-old man was later arrested.

He remains at Northern Beaches Hospital under police guard.

“I am very happy to know that he’s no longer on the streets,” Davis said.

A police investigation is still underway.
