Sydney dog attack victim calls for action over staffie that mauled her

A dog attack victim says she still lives in fear of her neighbour’s pet, eight months after it mauled her in Sydney’s west.

Bahje Adlouni and her three children were outside their Wetherill Park home in June when she was set upon by the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

The mother suffered cracked teeth, a fractured jaw, a cracked skull and leg injuries in the ordeal.

“I feel like my life got ruined,” she told 7NEWS.

Fairfield City Council issued the dog owner with a fine but the animal still regularly wanders the neighbourhood off-leash.

Adlouni said more action was needed because the council was dealing with a ticking time bomb.

“It’s pathetic. This is neglect towards me, towards my kids, towards the neighbourhood,” she said.

Canterbury Bankstown Council responded quickly on Tuesday after a cleaner was mauled by a pet pitbull in Condell Park.

Lynda Dowell, aged in her 30s, was treated at the scene for bites to her chest, arms and legs before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“(There) was blood everywhere. It looked like a murder scene,” one witness said.

Immediately after the attack, the dog was handed over to the council by its owner and it was then euthanised.

It is up to the rangers or police to make that decision at their own discretion.

Dog trainer Liarne Henry suggested visitors should make themselves familiar with potential threats.

“I would go there, if the owners are home, (and) ask if you can walk the dog together around the block,” she said.
