Supermarket employee in critical condition after serious assault at Sydney shopping centre

A NSW man is in a critical condition after he was allegedly assaulted at his workplace in Sydney.

The 64-year-old employee was working at a supermarket on Patrick St in Blacktown about 6.30pm on Sunday, when he was allegedly pushed, which caused him to fall over and hit his head on the floor.

The employee had stopped a man, who was allegedly trying to leave the supermarket without paying for items. The man left the store after pushing the employee and boarded a train at Schofields Railway Station.

The employee was treated by paramedics at the scene, then taken to Westmead Hospital where his condition deteriorated. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

NSW Police arrested a man on Monday in relation to the incident. The 25-year-old man was arrested at a Schofields home about 1.30pm and taken to Blacktown Police Station.
