Summer sandal brand Best Picks editors swear by celebrates 40th anniversary with new collection

When it comes to summer sandals, I know what I need to fit the bill.

Something stylish, yes, but more importantly, I’m after something that’s comfortable, something I can explore in and something that enables me to smash my 10,000 step count — while looking good at the same time.

This is where Teva comes in.

For years, Matilda and I from Best Picks have been waxing lyrical about the comfort and cuteness of Teva sandals.

Between us, we own several pairs of the iconic, colourful designs — and I’ve walked cities around the world in them without blisters, all the while being complimented along the way.

Which was why it was music to my ears to hear that because the iconic Grand Canyon-born brand was turning 40 this year, it is releasing a special celebratory collection.

Dubbed “Where To Next?”, the campaign highlights four decades of the original sport sandal, as well as Teva’s history in adventure and the outdoors.

The 40th anniversary celebration kicks off with an “80s Revive Collection”, which includes both the Original Sandal and the Original Universal.

There will also be a “90s Revive Collection”, complete with the Original Alp ($120) and Hurricane XLT2 ($150).

Both drops will include fan favourite archival styles and retro-inspired prints from the decade they honour, but modernised for today — proving that adventure never gets old.

My personal pick is these Original Universal Revive Sandals ($110), which feature a fun stripe and the same comfort Teva sandals are known for.

But there will be new additions to the 40th anniversary collection happening all through March.

Those who have tried Tevas, like myself, have raved about the comfort of the shoes.

“My Tevas are as expected. Lightweight and comfy,” one shopper wrote.

“These sandals are SO comfortable. I got them to wear on a trip this past fall to Hawaii, and they were the best thing I brought,” another added.

“Easy to walk in the sand, so commutable to walk on any terrain. You can wash them off if they get dirty. So cushy and soft. Velcro for easy walking and adjustments. Such a good sandal for a walking or beach trip. I can’t wait to wear them this summer. They are so cute too!”

Teva was first created in the Grand Canyon in 1984 by a resourceful river guide looking for a way to prevent sandals from floating downstream.

Teva introduced the world to the first sport sandal, and now, 40 years later, the brand has ignited a global passion for the category, creating mass appeal within the fashion industry while remaining true to its outdoor roots.

“Our fans across decades and around the globe are uniquely united in a common search for adventure, in whatever form that means to them,” Director of Global Brand Marketing Sarah Carter said.

“This year, we’re looking back on where we’ve been, celebrating all the places people have taken us, and inspiring our fans to ask themselves: ‘Where to Next?’”
