Steps announce new musical ‘Here and Now’ | Theatre | Entertainment

Britain’s most successful mixed pop group of all time, Steps, take another step forward into the world of theatre with their very own musical ‘Here and Now’. The show will feature their own fabulous pop tunes, produced by the band and ROYO with Pete Waterman. The group promise to feature all of their most beloved tunes. Think ‘Tragedy’, ‘Last Thing on my Mind’, ‘One For Sorrow’, and of course, ‘5, 6, 7, 8’…

The production will be directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, who worked on the Great British Bake Off Musical, and choreography will be by Olivier Award-winning Matt Cole (Newsies, Roman Holiday). It will also feature an original book by playwright and screenwriter Shaun Kitchener, who is also a core writer for Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.

The story will centre around a seaside superstore called Better Best Bargains, where there’s plenty of dancing in the aisles, as well as plenty of love, lies, and betrayal. Will central character Caz and her friends get their chance of a ‘happy ever after’?

Steps, who formed in 1997, are one of the UK’s favourite pop groups, and Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins’, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee have provided us with some of the catchiest and campest singles in the history of music.

The band are looking forward to getting the show on the road and say “We’ve been lucky to do many things together as a band, but the question we get asked again and again is ‘where is the Steps musical?’ Well…it’s finally here and we couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s a story of friendship, romance and community; packed with our biggest hits and sure to have everybody laughing, crying and dancing in the aisles. We can’t wait to open the doors later this year, and see you there!”

In 2017, Steps’ comeback tour completely sold out a whopping 300,000 tickets in total, making it one of the biggest seling pop tours of that year. The group celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2022 with a headline Summer tour and released the number one album Platinum Collection which impressively saw them join ABBA, Rolling Stones and Stereophonics as the only groups in UK history to have number one albums in four successive decades.

Tickets for the show will be on sale from February the 9th, so get be sure to get the date in your diaries. Missing out would be The Last Thing on any fan’s Mind.

Here & Now will open at The Alexandra, Birmingham later this year from 9 – 24 November 2024.
