Skin Fairy Clinic founder Carmen McNamara said the story serves as a reminder to get your skin checked.

“Our wonderful therapist Chantal at Claremont actually picked something up on one of her client’s skin that she thought looked a little bit inconspicuous and it was actually a melanoma,” Ms McNamara said.

“Get your skin checked.”

The client thanked the business for their life-saving find, saying she is so grateful they picked it up.

“The spot on my face was all good. HOWEVER, a tiny spot on my shoulder was picked up, the Dr wasn’t quite happy with the look of it and took a biopsy,” the client said in a message to the clinic.

“Today I had that spot removed as it was detected as a melanoma. 10 stitches and hopefully heals well.

“Thank you to Chantal!! I wanted to share this now as I am not in until Sept. I am so grateful for the advice, and for giving me the motivation to make the appointment! I so appreciate it.

“Thank you Carmen for educating, training and having such high standards in your business.

“Literally saving lives,” she said.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and if left untreated, it can spread to other parts of the body.

The Cancer Council urges Australians to book in for regular skin checks and to make it a habit to check your skin for new spots and changes to existing freckles or moles.
