Shrek and 500 Days of Summer actor Jean-Paul Vignon has died aged 89 following a battle with liver cancer.
The French star died on March 22 in Beverley Hills, California, his family said on Wednesday.
The actor and singer will be remembered for his role in the first Shrek film, voicing one of Robin Hood’s Merry Men.

He also narrated the 2009 romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Jean-Paul Vignon announces that he passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024,” a statement shared to the actor’s Facebook said.
“Jean-Paul will be lovingly remembered for his love of life, his devotion to his friends and loved ones, and his amazing ability to capture an audience and endlessly entertain.”
“May his light and life be a reminder to all to enjoy every moment. This page will be left open for all to share their memories and stories of Jean-Paul.”
Vignon’s career kicked off in France during the 1950s, as he performed as part of a cabaret before starring in a series of French films.
In 1963, he left Europe for New York, opening for stand-up comedian Woody Allen at supper club The Blue Angel.
Performing on The Ed Sullivan Show, he notably sang a duet with Liza Minnelli in 1964.
That appearance led him to become a regular guest on Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin’s programs.
In 1968, he had a role in the action film The Devil’s Brigade.
Other of his credits include Andre in the TV series Gilmore Girls and Monsieur Lazare in the soap opera Days of Our Lives.
Vignon was also a successful singer, releasing his first album in 1964, titled Because I Love You.
He is survived by his partner Suzie Summers and daughters Marguerite Vignon Gaul and Lucy Brank.
