Selena Gomez has been roasted online after taking the world’s shortest social media break.
Celebrities often announce to their followers that they are going offline for a while, whether to do a digital detox because they’re going somewhere where there’s no internet, or for personal reasons.

That can mean a few days, weeks, or even months, depending on the situation.
But after her umpteenth announcement that she was going offline for a while, Gomez lasted less than 24 hours before posting on Instagram again.
The 31-year-old Only Murders in the Building star announced on Wednesday that she was taking a break.
Sharing a picture of new boyfriend Benny Blanco, she wrote: “I’m off social for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.”
But 18 hours later, she was back, posting an Instagram story about cooking with Gordon Ramsay.
So quick was her turnaround that her previous story about going offline hadn’t even had time to expire.
This time around, some fans seemed a bit exasperated, calling the U-turn “annoying”.
Numerous Gomez followers took to X (formerly Twitter) to roast the singer and actress.
Budget Irish airline Ryanair poked fun at itself, and Gomez, with a quip about her tendency to go back on her word.
“If ‘I’m never flying Ryanair ever again’ was a person’,” the airline posted, sharing a story about the star’s rapid return to Instagram.
Another fan wrote: “Selena Gomez is so annoying — and also 100 per cent me if I were a mega famous celebrity.”
“Someone on Reddit said they think Selena Gomez thinks a social media break is when you close the app, and I think that’s exactly right,” wrote another.
“She didn’t even make it to 24 hours, I’m crying,” said a third.
“The ‘I’m taking a break’ story hasn’t even expired yet PLEASEE.”
Some argued that the Gordon Ramsay post may have been done by her social media team, not by Gomez herself.
Most big celebrities have people who handle part or all of their social media posts, so this is definitely a possibility.
Gomez gossip
Gomez was making headlines for a very different reason at Sunday night’s Golden Globes in LA.
During an ad break, she was captured in animated conversation with singer Taylor Swift.
When the footage was posted online, amateur lip-readers were convinced Gomez was telling Swift that actor Timothee Chalamet turned down her request for a photo.
Some people surmised that Chalamet said no because he was there with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, who gossip lovers believe isn’t exactly Gomez’s bestie.
But after the event, Gomez shot down that rumour, claiming that she was talking to Swift about something else entirely.
When E! News mentioned the Kylie Jenner theory on Instagram, Gomez dropped into the comments to set the record straight.
“Nooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up,” she wrote.
