After the teams ended the first quarter in a 3-3 tie, Toronto took the lead for good by outscoring Calgary 3-1 in the second quarter.

Rock goaltender Nick Rose was powerful, thwarting too many top-shelf chances by the Roughnecks for 38 stops on the night — many of the rock-star variety.

Rose recorded his 100th career National Lacrosse League victory. He joined Matt Vinc, Pat O’Toole, Bob Watson, and Mike Poulin as the fifth member of the NLL goalie century club.

I guess it means I’m old,” Rose said, jokingly. “It’s cool for sure, but there’s still a lot of season left, so hopefully we can get that number a bit higher by the end of this season.

The Rock had a big boost prior to the game with the return of defender Josh Jubenville and faceoff specialist TD Ierlan.  Both players were activated following the morning shootaround from the Injured Reserve List.

The game was the first of a home-and-home series. The rematch is scheduled for Sat. Feb. 10 at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre (7 p.m. ET, TSN).

“Toronto’s got a real good team, and Nicky played really well,” said Roughnecks head coach Josh Sanderson. “They’re one of the top teams for the last few years. We knew it was going to be a battle.”
