Police have made an arrest in the Kingfisher Lake First Nation following a serious assault in the northwestern Ontario community last week.
The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) was contacted on Monday about an assault that had taken place at a residence in the First Nation community.
“The individual had sustained serious and life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital via air ambulance for medical treatment,” said police in a news release.
Due the nature of the victim’s injuries, NAPS contacted Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for assistance.
On Wednesday, following the joint police investigation, an 18-year-old local man was arrested.
The accused is charged with aggravated assault and escaping lawful custody.
The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court in Kenora, Ont. on June 3.
Police officials said the joint investigation is continuing.
Anyone with information related to the investigation or the assault is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
