The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are underway in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. The 2024 SAG Awards, which celebrate excellence in both film and television, will be the last major convergence of the short- and long-form media until the September Emmys. On the film front, each half of Barbenheimer tied for the most nominations, with four apiece, while Succession earned fiveâthe most of any television show. There is even more to celebrate than usual this year, as tonight marks the first SAG Awards since the end of the guildâs strike in November.
The ceremony, which will stream on Netflix, customarily has no host, but will still start off strong with Idris Elba opening the show. Jennifer Aniston will also present Barbra Streisand with the 59th SAG Lifetime Achievement Award for her work on and off screen. Other presenters include Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, Cillian Murphy, Greta Lee, Colman Domingo, andâof courseâSAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher.
While the SAGs donât garner as much red carpet attention as the Golden Globes or Oscars, we can still expect some exciting style moments. Last year, Aubrey Plaza sparked much conversation with her cutout Michael Kors dress, Zendaya rocked a rosette-covered Valentino couture number, and Paul Mescal flexed his fashion muscles in Simone Rocha. And there are more thrilling fashion moments from yearâs past: Sarah Jessica Parkerâs off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood suit from 2000, Lady Gagaâs breathtaking white Dior Haute Couture dress in 2019, and Halle Berryâs strappy, figure-hugging dress from 1995.
