Seven regions of Ukraine are suffering emergency blackouts after Russia fired dozens of missiles and drones at critical energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian ministry of energy has reported.
According to the ministry, regions from the northeast down to the south of the country are all suffering at least intermittent blackouts after the attacks on Thursday and Friday.
“We ask Ukrainians to understand the temporary difficulties,” said the ministry in a statement on Telegram. “The enemy expects panic from us and wants to sow despair. But we confidently passed the winter with light and warmth. And this will continue to be the case.”
On the night of March 29, Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched roughly 100 missiles and drones at energy infrastructure across Ukraine.
They said 84 missiles and drones were shot down but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said damage to some infrastructure had been sustained.
Last week, Russia launched more than a hundred missiles and drones in a concerted effort to hit Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Hundreds of thousands in Kharkiv, northeast Ukraine, were left without electricity – and they have just been hit again.

Air raid warnings across Ukraine as Russia launches barrage of 99 drones and missiles
Russia launched a huge attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Friday, with a barrage of 99 drones and missiles hitting regions across the country, Ukraine’s armed forces said.
Air raid warnings rang out across the nation, with 10 Ukrainian regions coming under fire, the country’s interior minister, Ihor Klymenko, said.
Russia has escalated its attacks on Ukraine in recent days, launching several missile barrages on the capital, Kyiv, and hitting energy infrastructure across the country in apparent retaliation for recent Ukrainian aerial attacks on the Russian border region of Belgorod. Such sporadic attacks, however, have been common throughout the war.

Hours before gunmen last week carried out the bloodiest attack in two decades in Russia, authorities made an addition to a government register of extremist and terrorist groups: They included the international LGBTQ+ “movement.”
That addition to the register followed a Russian Supreme Court court ruling last year that cracked down on gay and transgender people in the country.
