(NewsNation) — A California auction house has sold a royal collection that includes clothes and other items once belonging to Princess Diana for more than $5 million.
The collection included more than 50 items that belonged to Diana, the largest amount since a 1997 auction she held.
Top-selling items included three evening gowns once belonging to the princess, designed by Victor Edelstein, Murray Arbeid and Catherine Walker. Other items from Princess Diana included letters, cards and photos.
The beloved people’s princess was not the only royal represented. A diamond watch pendant once belonging to King George VI, a Scottish Highland officer’s sword owned by the Duke of Windsor, a fur coat worn by the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, and coronation medals from Queen Elizabeth II were also up for sale.
Some of the items date back further in history, including a piece of child’s clothing from the reign of Queen Victoria.
Held by Julien’s Auctions in California, the collection toured the world first, stopping in Hong Kong and New York, among other locations.
A portion of the sales of Princess Diana’s items will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK, a charity she was involved in during her lifetime.
