Conservationist and TV star Robert Irwin suffered a freak croc-related accident just hours before Sunday night’s 2024 Logie Awards.
The 20-year-old wildlife warrior revealed to Dr Chris Brown, 45, and Sonia Kruger, 58, on the red carpet at The Star in Sydney that he came “straight in from catching crocodiles up north”.

Sonia asked the young wildlife warrior if he was excited to be staying up so late, prompting the alarming anecdote from Irwin.
“I just came straight in from catching crocodiles up north,” he casually told the red-carpet hosts during Channel 7’s coverage.
“I just got my head smashed into a tree.”
“I was on a croc’s head, it was a big makeup job but I’m here, I’m excited and we are pumped and I get to do it with one of my best mates, which is awesome,” he added of his I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! co-host, Julia Morris.
Some expected Irwin’s plus-one for the night to be his mum Terri Irwin, however, instead, he walked the carpet with Morris and members of his publicity team.
Viewers quickly took to social media to comment on Robert’s unexpected choice of date, with many joking about the absence of his mother.
“Looks like he ditched helicopter mum for TV mum,” one fan quipped, while another noted, “Surprised Mummy let Robert out by himself.”
A third commenter remarked, “It’s unusual for him not to have his mother with him, even in the jungle,” and another added, “Bet mummy wasn’t happy.”
The mother-son duo is known to have a special bond, however, her frequent travels with her 20-year-old son attracted some criticism in May 2024.
She accompanied Irwin to Africa for the filming of I’m A Celebrity and was seen in posts he made during a trip to the US with a friend.
On Sunday, Irwin shared a video to his social media, showcasing his journey “from croc country to the Logies red carpet!”
“The best!!!” his sister Bindi Irwin wrote.
“The entire croc trip team is cheering for you back here on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve. We can’t wait! Super proud of you”.
“We are super excited! Go Robert!” Terri Irwin said.
