Rihanna Addresses ‘Retired’ T-Shirt Controversy

Rihanna is setting the record straight on a certain headline-making outfit she wore that quickly went viral.

Fans of the singer ― who put out her last album in 2016 ― read into the message perhaps a little too much.

“Wait for the ‘I Quit’ T-shirt,” Rihanna joked in an interview with Extra!, published on Tuesday.

She explained that the shirt in question “was just me looking into the future.”

“I’m not retired. I just liked that dress,” the Fenty Beauty founder said. “I got it as a gift and I loved it.”

The Grammy winner insisted that anyone shocked by the T-shirt “didn’t read the second line” of the shirt, which read, “This is as dressed up as I get.”

Rihanna echoed those sentiments in a separate interview with ET that was published on Tuesday.

“People got triggered with that ‘retired’ word,” she said. “They were like, ‘We’re never getting an album now.’”

Rihanna added that despite the shirt, she is working on new music.

“I think that music, for me, is a new discovery,” she told the outlet. “I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start ― give me a second!”
