Kattoub suffered wounds to his arms and chest before bystanders intervened and Mahone, then 31, tossed the blade into nearby grass.

Kattoub was then rushed to Liverpool Hospital.

District Court judge Huw Baker said the offence was “serious” and “the weapon, although part of a pair of scissors … was fashioned into the use as a weapon”.

The attack ended what had already been a stressful day for Kattoub.

He had crashed his car into a power pole that morning in Canley Vale, leaving it in a “no stopping zone”.

He returned hours later so it could be towed. It was then that Mahone crashed his ute into the back of Kattoub’s vehicle.

Instead of taking accountability for causing the crash, Mahone blamed the victim.

The offender went to his car to “arm himself” before returning to “stab the victim multiple times”.

Mahone was on Thursday handed a three-year jail sentence but with time already served could be released as early as February.
