Ravens’ latest trade creates more O-line questions

The Baltimore Ravens already lost starting left guard John Simpson to the New York Jets in free agency, and now they are parting ways with yet another starter on their offensive line.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens are trading right tackle Morgan Moses and a fourth-round pick (No. 134) to the Jets for a fourth-round pick (No. 112) and sixth-round pick (No. 218).

It ends a solid two-year stint with Baltimore as he heads back to New York where he spent the 2021 season.

The trade makes sense for the Ravens, who want to upgrade their offensive line this offseason. According to Pro Football Focus, Moses allowed five sacks and was penalized six times during the 2023 season.

However, the move does create even more questions on Baltimore’s offensive line, which has now lost two starters. The team could also lose a third starter in right guard Kevin Zeitler, who is a free agent, in the coming days.

If that’s the case, the Ravens will have three holes to fill on their offensive line this offseason. Some believe offensive tackle Patrick Mekari could slide into the right tackle spot, but that only solves one of the problems.

Baltimore is clearly going to have a lot of turnover following a season in which it came up just one game shy of the Super Bowl, but the team will always be competitive as long as two-time NFL MVP QB Lamar Jackson is healthy.

As for the Jets, they fill a glaring need at right tackle, which allows Alijah Vera-Tucker to stay put at guard and makes left tackle an obvious choice at pick No. 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

ESPN’s Field Yates believes a name to watch is Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu, who has not allowed a sack in more than 680 pass-protection snaps over the past two seasons.
