(NewsNation) — A New Jersey elementary school is changing its name following the conviction of Sen. Bob Menendez on bribery charges earlier this month.
The Robert Menendez Elementary School in West New York, New Jersey will now be called by its previous name, PS #3, according to reports from the New Jersey Globe.
Mayor Albio Sires said the name will be changed before the school year starts.
The school was renamed in 2013 by then-Mayor Felix Roque after he had endorsed Menendez’s opponent in the 2012 senatorial election, though he later flipped and endorsed Menendez for re-election.
Sen. Menendez was found guilty earlier this month of accepting bribes, including gold, thousands of dollars in cash and a luxury car. He pleaded not guilty to 16 felony charges that he accepted bribes from three New Jersey businessmen from 2018 to 2022.
