The PS5 Pro was announced yesterday as thousands tuned into the new showing of Sony’s brand new console to hit the market. The PS5 Pro will launch on November 7 with pre-order to open on September 26 later this month.
However, the response to the launch was… interesting at best for PS5 fans. At a price of £699.99 at launch, its a huge price tag that will probably be for the absolute loyal gamers who need to see their favourite games at the best fidelity possible.
One big thing that was also missing was the lack of a disc drive. Sony has done away with the disc drive on the console – and if you want one to play your discs, you’ll need to pay up and you might want to get one now.
The disc drive is currently around £100 from PS Direct and other sites like Very that may start to sell out as we get closer to the start of the pre-orders. We observed EE Store’s stock of PS5 disc drives sell out in hours not long after the announcement.
We can only imagine how much worse the stock situation for disc drives might be on the day of the PS5 Pro’s pre-order and until Christmas as people rush to get one to play their games.
So if you want to make sure you get one before pre-orders launch in a few weeks, you won’t want to delay especially after the PS5 stock situation we saw when it first released.
The new PS5 Pro will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. Sony has promised a faster and bigger GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
Sony also unveiled something called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, which is an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
