Prominent Biden donor says he won't fundraise for Harris

Prominent political megadonor John Morgan said he will not fundraise for Vice President Harris, whom President Biden endorsed for the Democratic nomination after his withdrawal from the race.

“I describe myself, before I was an Independent, as Joe-Biden Democrat,” Morgan, an Orland-based attorney said during an appearance on NewsNation’s “CUOMO.” “Now he’s gone, and I”m just an Independent. I have a problem with the process.

Morgan said he believes Harris will lose in November.

“She would not be my first choice,” Morgan told NewsNation affiliate The Hill. “But it’s a done deal.”

Morgan said that he would have rather seen Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) or West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (i) at the top of the ticket.

Morgan’s statement could be a sign of some division among Democrats over the likelihood of Harris being their standard-bearer.

Still, other donors have signaled that are energized and ready for a Harris candidacy. On Monday morning, the Harris campaign announced it raised nearly $50 million since Biden announced he was stepping down Sunday.

Harris also has secured a number of notable endorsements from major Democratic figures, including former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, along with Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Even a number of Democrats floated to replace Biden at the top of the ticket, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) have backed Harris.

A handful of big names, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former President Obama, have yet to endorse Harris.
