An “extensive” search is underway for a man who was accidentally released from a correctional facility in Sydney’s southeast.
Corey Hastings, 30, was released from Long Bay Correctional Complex in Matraville, about 1pm on Thursday but within hours Corrective Services NSW realised their mistake.
Police believe Hastings was last seen at a shopping centre in Eastgardens just before 3pm and are calling on the public to come forward with any leads.

He is Caucasian, 192cm tall, with a heavy build and red or auburn hair and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with stripes.
It’s believed he may be travelling by public transport.
“Members of the public who see him are urged not to approach but contact Triple Zero (000) immediately,” police said.
Corrective Services NSW told 7NEWS.com.au they were investigating.
“Corrective Services NSW is investigating the erroneous release of a 30-year-old inmate from Long Bay Correctional Complex at approximately 1pm on Thursday, 7 March 2024,” a spokesperson said.
“CSNSW staff are required to follow detailed procedures when processing inmate detention, sentencing decisions and releases from custody.
“The release was due to an administration error following a court appearance. CSNSW is investigating how the error occurred.
“NSW Police have been informed.”
