Phillies manager Rob Thomson was ejected in the sixth inning of Sunday’s contest against the Orioles following a heated exchange with home plate umpire Mike Estabrook.
Thomson, who hails from Sarnia, Ont., unleashed a ballistic response to a reverse call on Philadelphia’s Garrett Stubbs after the catcher was ruled to have not been hit by a pitch while squaring up to bunt.
Stubbs was initially told to take first base from Estabrook before a meeting with the umpire crew led to his return to the batter’s box.
Thomson would make his way out from the visitor’s dugout moments later and proceed to plead the case of his batter for nearly 40 seconds before being ejected from the game by Estabrook.
The two continued to bitterly jaw at each other shortly thereafter before Thomson retired to the Phillies dugout.
Stubbs went on to fly out in the at-bat and the Phillies would lose to the Orioles 8-3.
