BABYLON, N.Y. (PIX11) – At least one suspect was arrested Tuesday after body parts were discovered in a Long Island park last week, a source told NewsNation affiliate WPIX.
Police said a young girl walking to school last Thursday found the severed left arm of a man on Siegel Boulevard, which runs alongside Southards Pond Park. The arm had a distinct tattoo and the fingertips were cut off.
The discovery led to a search of the park, where police found another male arm as well as the head, leg and arm of an unidentified woman, according to authorities.
The body parts appeared to have been dumped recently, police said. Investigators are waiting on an autopsy report to reveal more information on the cause of death for both victims.
Police also searched nearby Bethpage State Park on Tuesday in connection with the investigation. It remained unclear whether any evidence was found.
The motive remained unclear, as of Tuesday afternoon.
