Pedestrian dies as mobility scooter hit by car at Mulgoa Rd, Penrith

A man has died when his mobility scooter was struck by a car in Western Sydney.

The pedestrian, believed to be a man in his 80s, was riding his mobility scooter when he was struck at the intersection of Mulgoa Rd and Ransley St, Penrith about 12.45pm Friday, police said.

Paramedics treated the man but he died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Police allege the driver involved failed to stop after the crash.

“Following inquiries, police arrested a man at a shopping centre on Jane St, Penrith, about 1.45pm,” police said.

He was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.

Traffic is affected on Mulgoa Rd and diversions are in place.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and allow for extra travel time.
