The Green Bay Packers feel that they’re in another Super Bowl window, and with a potentially stacked offense led by Jordan Love and a slew of talented and young receivers, they very well may be right.
Throw in a defense chock-full of first-round talent under the direction of new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, and this is a Packers roster that should be able to compete with just about any team in the NFL, and certainly with everyone in the NFC.
That’s not to say general manager Brian Gutekunst has built the perfect roster, though. In fact, the Packers still have one glaring weakness.
What is going on at kicker?
This is easily Green Bay’s biggest question mark, especially when considering that a made or missed field goal can be all the difference in a playoff run.
The Pack cut second-year kicker Anders Carlson after a shaky rookie season and following training camp in which he never lived up to his status as sixth round 2023 draft pick. The player they brought in to compete with him in camp, veteran kicker Greg Joseph, was cut a day after making the initial 53 in favor of undrafted rookie Brayden Narveson, who spent camp with the Tennessee Titans before being cut himself.
The Packers picked Narveson up off waivers because he does have great potential. He went 6-of-7 on field goals this preseason and made a 59-yarder. At NC State, he went 18-of-23 with a long of 57 and he was a perfect 38-of-38 on extra points.
