Overwatch 2 fans are counting down to the launch of a brand new season. Titled New Frontiers, Overwatch 2 Season 12 has an August 20 release date and a 6pm BST UK launch time on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. The new season will be available alongside a big new update, which introduces a new character, game mode, rewards and lots more. Patch notes will be available prior to launch on August 20, so keep checking back for the full list of changes. The headline new feature is the release of a new support hero named Juno.
Juno is equipped with the Mediblaster, which is a burst fire weapon that heals allies and damages enemies in its primary form.
Pressing secondary fire unleashes Juno’s Pulsar Torpedoes, which are homing projectiles that also heal allies and damage enemies.
Juno’s Ultimate is the Orbital Ray, which calls down a ray that travels forward, healing allies and increasing their damage.
Other abilities include the Glide Boost, which lets Juno glide forward with increased speed. Hyper Ring, meanwhile, is a deployable ring that increases the movement speed of allies that pass through it. Juno’s Passive lets hero perform a double jump and glide.
In addition to a new hero, Blizzard will also release a new “adrenaline-pumping” game mode called Clash.
Blizzard explains more: “Clash pit teams against each other in a relentless battle for dominance over multiple capture points.
“With dynamic spawns and streamlined map routes, heroes can spend more time in the heat of battle and less time running back to the front lines.”
Needless to say, a new season also means a new Battle Pass, complete with a host of free and premium rewards.
This includes the Mythic Anubis Reaper Hero Skin and the Mythic Midnight Sun Ana Weapon Skin, which can be unlocked by collecting Mythic Prisms from Premium Battle Pass.
Furthermore, fans can unlock Legendary skins like Bast Doomfist, Oni Ana, Thoth Illari, Dorothy Ashe, and Captain Sigma, plus in-game credits, XP boosts and lots more. Free rewards include 600 Overwatch Coins, 1500 credits, and dozens of new cosmetics.
Elsewhere, the Season 12 update will make various balance changes, particularly with mobile heroes that currently have an advantage within the game.
Blizzard will reduce the health of multiple Damage and Support heroes, all the while making improvements to Lifeweaver’s Petal Platform, Healing Blossom and Rejuvenating Dash.
