Outrage as popular everyday Aussie buy disappears from Woolworths: ‘Deal breaker’

Woolworths is under fire from an army of disgruntled shoppers over a decision to discontinue a popular everyday buy.

Scores of disappointed customers have flooded social media in recent hours to complain about the move to dump 680g loaves of its gluten free bread from the supermarket’s bakery range.

Until now, Woolworths sold the large variety of its Free From Gluten White Bread – alongside a smaller 440g loaf.

However, now the 680g variety has been removed from shelves, prompting a heated backlash from customers.

“We want the large loaves back! As coeliac family that shops at Woolies this is becoming a deal breaker,” said one.

Another added: “Please bring the large 680g loaf back. It’s the only loaf my daughter and I like. It truly was the best gluten free bread around and it’s so frustrating that you no longer stock it. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.”

A third wrote: “YES! I don’t understand why the large white loaf has been taken away! You cannot claim this wasn’t popular as it was ALWAYS sold out!

“When you are so limited in breads, and so many of them taste terrible to have the only go one taken away just isn’t right! Please bring it back!”

One more responded: “Bring back the big loaf! As a Coeliac my grocery bill is always exorbitantly higher than the average gluten eating person for less volume.

“We finally had an almost equivalent sized loaf and Woolworths decided to remove it from their shelves and give a poor excuse. This is a medical condition and not a choice, why should we get less value for money!”

Another wrote: “Agree with everyone else. Bring back the large GF loaf!”

Woolworths responds

A Woolworths spokesperson has confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au that it recently made changes to it several bakery items.

“We recently reformulated a number of products in our bakery range and currently offer a range of gluten free breads under our ‘free from gluten’ range, including a white loaf ($6.25), seeded bread load ($6.25) and wholemeal bread loaf ($6.25),” the spokesperson said.

“We appreciate the customer feedback and will take this into consideration in the future.”
