Oppenheimer and Barbie dominated this year’s Oscars but there was a hidden gem among them that won an Academy Award and the critics.
With 98 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Godzilla Minus One was hailed as one of the greatest Godzilla movies ever and won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
The Japanese epic follows a former kamikaze pilot taking on a radiation empowered Godzilla.
The action takes place two years after the devastation of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II.
Hailed as one of the best films of 2023, the hidden gem was inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Steven Spielberg. In fact, the latter couldn’t praise the film enough.
According to The AV Club, Spielberg was “obsessed” with Godzilla Minus One.
The Hollywood legend told director Takashi Yamazaki: “I saw it once in my home, and then I had to go see it again in IMAX, then Dolby Atmos.”
Godzilla Minus One is now streaming on Netflix.
