Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville slammed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for backing former President Donald Trump on Sunday.
“I don’t know if she’s more spineless or gutless, but one of the two certainly apply to her,” Carville said in an appearance on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
The ex-United Nations ambassador ― a harsh Trump critic on the campaign trail before dropping her 2024 bid and later endorsing him ― appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” where she declared that it was “not a question” for her when asked about supporting the GOP nominee over Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I saw Nikki Haley on another network this morning. Oh my God,” said Carville, who added that she talked about “how much she loved Taiwan” despite Trump previously signaling that he wouldn’t defend Taiwan from China.
He later continued, “And then she started talking about Afghanistan. Does that woman have any courage at all? Because if she does, it’s not particularly evident to anybody.”
Psaki, a former White House press secretary under President Joe Biden, told Carville that Haley hasn’t “delivered on the courage quotient” in recent months.
Haley, when questioned over Trump’s suggestion that Taiwan has to pay the U.S. for protection from China, said she’d be the first person to say “that’s not the way it should be.”
Elsewhere in her CBS interview, Haley turned her focus to “policy” when asked about Trump discussing writer E. Jean Carroll’s sexual assault case against him.
She has previously declared that Trump is not qualified to be president again, that he’s “unhinged” and he’s “more diminished than he was” in 2016.
