Officers hurt after armed man walks into GTA police station

Two officers were injured after an armed man walked into a Pickering police station.

Durham Regional Police said that at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a male suspect entered the West Division station at 1710 Kingston Rd., while allegedly armed with a weapon.

Police said there was allegedly an altercation between the suspect and officers at the front desk and the suspect was taken into custody. The station was closed temporarily.

The two officers received minor injuries, while the suspect was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Police said they believe the firearm was a pellet gun, but testing was needed to confirm that.

Ontario’s police watchdog is taking over investigation of the incident, Durham cops said in a late-afternoon update, adding that “no further details can be provided” on their part.
