Officer injured after mob 'takes over' street in Virginia

(NewsNation) — Police in Virginia are still looking for anyone involved over the weekend in a mob attacking an officer in Fairfax County.

So far, four people — two 18-year-olds, a 20-year-old, and a 17-year-old — have been charged in what Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said was a night of “utter chaos and disorder.”

This “street takeover” happened around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police released video showing a group of people surrounding a female officer’s squad car. It shows people hitting her vehicle and even trying to get in. Some people waved guns around and jumped on the hood of the car.

That officer was not taken out of her car, but Davis says it could have easily gone the other way.

Another officer, struck by a car by a person who fled from the scene, sustained minor injuries.

Other “takeovers” have been reported at locations nationwide.

Last week, during one in Columbus, Ohio, a driver crashed into another car, sending the other person to the hospital.

And then, a few months ago in Milford, Connecticut, several cars and hundreds of spectators participated in a street takeover for around an hour. Police say in that case, suspects surrounded and punched an officer before sending him to the hospital.
