“Judge Judy is my forever valentine,” gushes Andrew Scott, cozied up to Dakota Fanning on a cornflower blue couch like they’re friends at a slumber party (albeit, both dressed in “funereal black”). In Vogue’s latest episode of Off the Cuff, the two co-stars giggle over secrets, spoilers, dream roles, and items stolen from set.
Scott and Fanning both appear in Ripley, Netflix’s new psychological-thriller series based on The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, with Scott playing the deceitful Tom Ripley and Fanning, Marjorie “Marge” Sherwood, his “rival.” But before landing those roles—long before—the two got their starts acting in commercials. While Fanning was an adorable tot in a Tide detergent ad, in Ireland Scott landed the role of a lad enjoying a bowl of Flahavan’s porridge. (Psst: He actually found the porridge “disgusting,” but that’s showbiz, baby!)
Elsewhere in the video, during a rapid-fire pop quiz, they ID close-up images from Uptown Girls and Fleabag—easy!—before advancing to more challenging stuff, like a detail from Fanning’s 2013 Met Gala dress. (It was Rodarte, naturally.) Then, asked what attracted him to the role of Ripley, Scott goes deep, reflecting on the character’s surprisingly vulnerable side. “Apart from the murder,” he notes, “I think he’d be a great husband!”
