NSW driver’s brazen excuse to try to get out of $2764 speeding fine

A NSW driver caught speeding 55km/h over the limit tried to justify his actions by telling police he needed to “use the washroom”.

Officers spotted a white Subaru driving at 111km/h in a 60km/h zone on Parramatta Rd, Burwood about 11.20pm on Friday.

When they stopped the car and confronted the driver about his speed, he told officers: “I need to use the washroom.”

The man was fined $2764 for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and his licence was suspended for six months.

NSW highway patrol police also heard another brazen excuse when they stopped a P-plater driving at double the speed limit in Agnes Banks on Saturday night.

Police set up for stationary speed checks on Springwood Rd heard an “excessively loud” vehicle approaching about 10pm.

The vehicle was clocked driving at 124km/h in a 60km/h zone, police said.

After being pulled over, the 18-year-old driver handed over his provisional licence — but there were no P-plates on the car.

“The driver was asked about his speed and his response was, ‘I had an argument at a party and when I left I was pissed off’,” police said.

As for the lack of P-plates, the young driver claimed, “they must have flew off”.

He was issued a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and not displaying his P-plates.

His licence was also suspended for six months.
