NRL issues a breach notice to Latrell Mitchell after ‘white powder’ scandal

The NRL has issued Latrell Mitchell with a “breach notice” after the South Sydney superstar was pictured with a white substance over the weekend.

The NRL integrity unit was called in to investigate after a leaked photo emerged of Mitchell hunched over a table with a white substance.

There is no suggestion it is an illicit drug.

The Rabbitohs were made aware of the circulating photo and referred it to the integrity unit on Monday.

On Thursday, the NRL issued Mitchell with a breach notice for an alleged breach of NRL code of conduct.

They also said the image depicted Mitchell “acting in a matter which has brought the game into disrepute”.

The league has given Mitchell five business days to respond.

The photo is believed to have been taken in Dubbo over the weekend, where the injured Mitchell was conducting a women’s football skill clinic.

The 27-year-old is now back at home in Sydney’s south, but has yet to publicly address the controversy.

His manager Matt Rose told 7NEWS on Tuesday that “Latrell is doing OK”.

“I mean, at this stage under NRL rules he can’t make any comment,” Rose said.

It is the third ‘white powder’ scandal in the NRL in three years.
