LAS VEGAS (NEXSTAR) — When you think of performers in Las Vegas, Wayne Newton has to immediately come to mind. The Vegas legend has been lighting up stages in Sin City for six decades!
“When I came here at 15, you could not to a television show from this town because nobody would sponsor it,” said Newton. “Now look at us.”
Newton hit in big in the 1960s with hits like “Danke Schoen” and “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast.” His performances at the Sands and the Stardust earned him a reputation as one of Vegas’ top performers.
These days, you can catch his “Up Close and Personal” show at the Flamingo.
Newton says becoming “Mr. Las Vegas” has become one of the highlights of his life noting the town has adopted him over the years. He’s truly an enduring figure in the history of the city.
Newton was featured during our Big Game Tailgate special hosted by Jarrett Payton and Justine Waldman. Check your local listings to catch the full program!
