Notre Dame feeling pressure for four-star QB commit Deuce Knight

Deuce Knight has been committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish since September of 2023.

That may not seem like a long time — less than a year at this point — but that’s a ton of time on the recruiting trail. Especially for a top quarterback recruit, and especially in the NIL and transfer portal era.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has to feel good about where the Irish are with Knight in that regard, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t pressure on the recruiting trail.

For instance, a new report from On3 states that Knight has been hearing a ton from Ole Miss and Alabama. Knight is from Lucedale, Mississippi and apparently, the pitch is keeping him closer to home compared to South Bend, Indiana.

While anything can happen on the recruiting trail, it is worth noting that On3 expert Phillip Dukes thinks the Notre Dame pledge will hold.

“I think Notre Dame provides so much that he likes off the field. Does he take a visit? Possibly. I know that’s pretty much taboo when it comes to a quarterback committed to Notre Dame. … But I think he’s the type of guy that I can’t see Notre Dame saying, ‘Well we’ll drop you.’ I think he may take a visit [elsewhere] to poke around and make sure he’s making the right decision, but I think it’d be one of those visits for confirmation, not for looking for something else. I think he just wants to make sure he’s made the right decision,” Dukes recently said.

If the commitment does hold, Notre Dame will be getting an extremely exciting young quarterback to work with. He’s ranked as the No. 8 quarterback in the 2025 class, per the 247 Sports Composite. He’s a left-handed dual-threat who threw for 2,047 yards and 17 touchdowns (two interceptions) while rushing for 494 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground for two schools in 2023.
