The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will open the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens on 5 September in a rematch of last season’s AFC title game, the NFL announced on Monday.
The Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 in January’s AFC championship game, and went on to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to claim their third Super Bowl in five seasons.
The Chiefs will be led by the reigning Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, while the Ravens have the current NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, at quarterback. Mahomes has won four of the five matchups between the pair.
As is tradition, the the Chiefs-Ravens opener will take place on Thursday night, with most of the other NFL teams playing their first game of the season a few days laster on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on NBC in the US. The Chiefs, as reigning champions, also kicked off the 2023 season, where they were upset by the Detroit Lions.
The NFL will release the entire 2024 season on Wednesday night on the NFL Network.
