New Hampshire results should be warning to Trump: George Will

(NewsNation) — The race for the Republican nomination looks oddly the same or even more like it did before New Hampshire — Trump is by far the likely nominee, and there are plenty of warning bells about his chances in the general election.

NewsNation’s senior political contributor George Will spoke with NewsNation’s Leland Vittert about Nikki Haley’s opportunities to make waves in the race.

“This is a long way from over, which is why Donald Trump is manifestly nervous. Furthermore, she gets under his skin,” Will said.

“Mr. Trump disparages Nikki Haley’s achievement because she’s depended on independent voters. Everyone knows that this election in November is going to be settled by independent voters, most important of which are college educated women in the suburbs,” Will added.

The latest polling by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ shows Trump with a 33-point lead among GOP voters in South Carolina. Haley is in a distant second with 26%. It’s a significant margin with a month to go before Republican voters head to the polls in the Palmetto State on Feb. 24.

A large roadblock for Haley has been the slew of Trump endorsements from South Carolina politicians. Five of the six GOP House members have endorsed the former president, as well as both GOP senators.

Several state officials, including the incumbent governor, have also thrown their support behind Trump. Regardless, Haley says she’s in the race for the long haul, despite Tuesday night’s loss.
