A 32-year-old man, who had an outstanding warrant for unrelated charges, was arrested at the home.
He was taken to Waverley Police Station, where he is assisting with inquiries.
Neighbours have told 7NEWS they heard screaming coming from the unit in the weeks leading up to the woman’s death.
“There’s ongoing screaming and shouting from that unit,” Neighbour Siteri Nasuwau.
“It’s all the time … every weekend they will be screaming.”
Others said they have been left “on edge” after a string of violent crimes in Sydney.
“The police have been here for a while, and they closed the whole street, so we definitely knew it was something serious straight away,” Neighbour Bracha Kadoury told 7NEWS.
“We’re very sad about it … and shocked as well.
“It just feels like … what’s happening to this town? I’m a bit on edge.”
7NEWS understands the man and woman are known to police.
A crime scene has been established, and an investigation has commenced.
“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death,” NSW Police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
