Nesthy Petecio to be promoted to the next rank in Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines — Bemedalled Olympic boxer Nesthy Petecio, who also serves as a non-commissioned personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), will be promoted to a higher rank once she returns.

Petecio’s current rank in the PCG is Petty Officer Second Class.

She will be given the next rank of Petty Officer First Class.

“The Coast Guard will be promoting her to the next high rank when she comes back,” said PCG Chief Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan in an ambush interview before an awarding ceremony in PCG Headquarters in Port Area, Manila.

Petecio got a bronze medal but she could no longer advance to the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s boxing event on Thursday morning.

“It’s a very inspiring achievement to the youth,” Gavan said about Petecio’s performance.
